UNIT 3 - LIKES AND DISLIKES

What Do You Like and Dislike? Let's Talk! 😊😠

We all have things we enjoy and things we'd rather avoid! Today, let's talk about our likes and dislikes in English. Here's how we can express them, paying attention to the grammar:

Expressing Strong Positive Feelings:

  • Love (+ noun or gerund): We use "love" for things we enjoy very much.

    • Example: I love pizza. (noun)
    • Example: She loves reading fantasy novels. (gerund - verb + -ing)
  • Like (+ noun or gerund): This is for things we generally enjoy.
Example: He likes playing video games. (gerund)
Example: We like spicy food. (noun)

Expressing Neutral Feelings:

  • Don't mind (+ noun or gerund): This means we are okay with something, it's not our favorite thing, but we don't dislike it.
    • Example: I don't mind doing the dishes. (gerund)
    • Example: She doesn't mind classical music. (noun)

Expressing Negative Feelings:

  • Don't like (+ noun or gerund): This is for things we do not enjoy.

    • Example: He doesn't like waking up early. (gerund)
    • Example: We don't like crowded places. (noun)
  • Hate (+ noun or gerund): We use "hate" for things we strongly dislike.

    • Example: I hate traffic jams. (noun)
    • Example: She hates cleaning the bathroom. (gerund)

💥Key Grammar Points:

  • After like, love, don't mind, don't like, and hate, we usually use a noun (e.g., pizza, music, crowded places) or the gerund form of a verb (verb + -ing, e.g., reading, playing, doing).

Now it's your turn! What do you love, like, don't mind, don't like, and hate?
